Welcome! I’m Fabienne, a visual artist living in a charming coastal town, on the shores of east Ireland.
Originally from western France (the Vendée), as a child, I found myself developing a true passion for art, particularly enjoying experimenting with various types of materials – from fabric to paint to clay. This led, later on, to study Interior Architecture & Design, and then to my enrolling at the National College of Arts and Design in Dublin, where I studied Visual Art Practice.
I find inspiration every day and everywhere, be it a quick glimpse of something in my surroundings, a unique experience or even just a moment in time. What engages my senses drives what I do. This can be seen in my Along The Coast collection, where living by the sea has obviously been a strong influence in my art. The pieces here are soft and free flowing featuring a deep and bold ocean-favoured palette.
Sometimes, I simply like to capture a shape, element, or outline and build upon that to create a meaningful piece that will impart a distinct impression, with the goal of making a connection. My Urban Landscape collection has many of these elements. Inspired by my background in Interior Architecture, here my pieces are more linear and shape driven, exploring the relationship between repetition, pattern and space, and how it impacts the observer.
I love to use a variety of different mediums in creating my art, such as drawing, printmaking, painting, and collage – whatever I think will best convey the mood of the piece. My selective use of colour is also deliberate, to create texture and depth, and make one question the intention.
As a fierce protector of the environment, I am committed to being a sustainable business. While it’s a little more painstaking and time-consuming, I have been experimenting with making my own natural and plant-based print pastes, dyes and inks. This direct link to the raw material is also fundamental to my work and spurs my innovation.
I thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me, my art and my creative process, and I so hope that you find a piece that resonates with you.
